Today while driving, I heard a throwback that made me turn up the volume and sing out loud. Guantanamera from Wyclef's Jean's debut album, The Carnival. The beat features rapper Lauryn Hill and vocals from the most amazing, Celia Cruz, which Billboard Magazine has said "is indisputably the best known and most influential female figure in the history of cuban music."
I went home and downloaded me some Carnival on itunes which included my beloved (and hidden in the back of my Fugees memory) Mona Lisa, Gone Till November and We Trying to Stay Alive. The Carnival's downloads then led me to the Rebirth of Slick by Digable Planets and Work by Gang Starr. Shot out to Itunes Genius recommendations which now has me in a hip happy mood.
Also check out from Celia Cruz: La Sopa en Botella, La Vida Es Un Carnaval, and Oye Como Va!
haha!! Mona Lisa was such a good song!
